How to Get Job Referrals Without a Large Network

The Voice of Job Seekers - Unemployed, Underemployed, Unappreciated Job Seekers Welcomed!

For this last summer episode, this is a recent interview with Margo Wickersham who has a Blab show. Originally, she was going to have Hannah Morgan on her show. However, at the last minute, Hannah couldn’t do it so Margo called me to fill in. It was a great decision because we had quite a robust conversation about getting the coveted external referral.

How important are referrals to your career? Let’s talk about it. I would love your feedback in one of three ways:

  1. Call and leave a voicemail at 708-365-9822, or text your comments to the same number
  2. Go to TheVoiceofJobSeekers.com, press the “Send Voicemail” button on the right side of your screen and leave a message
  3. Send email feedback to mark@thevoiceofjobseekers.com

Find Your Career Purpose

For this week’s episode, Stacie Parker is back to discuss how she job seekers discover find purpose. As a career practitioner, many people want help in finding a job, but don’t know his or her target career. Most of us rely on strategies requiring specific career intentions starting with what you want to do. Stacie provides some practical exercises to help you achieve career clarity.

I would love to hear what you think of the show. Are you clear of your career goals? Here’s how you can share with me:

Is Your MBA or JD Enough? Underemployment

The Voice of Job Seekers - Unemployed, Underemployed, Unappreciated Job Seekers Welcomed!

Two weeks ago, Payscale.com released survey results on underemployment. They report 46% of Americans feel they’re underemployed. I encourage you to go the site to read the survey for yourself as it breaks down the following:

  •  most common job titles of the underemployed
    • most common job titles of the underemployed
    • percentage of underemployed by degree level (from high school GED to MD)
    • percentage of underemployed by gender
    • percentage of underemployed by degree level + major
    • percentage of underemployed workers and a break down by reason for underemployment

Katie Bardaro is the Vice President Data & Analytics and Lead Economist at Payscale.com.
