Why Your Interview Skills Suck

The Voice of Job Seekers - Unemployed, Underemployed, Unappreciated Job Seekers Welcomed!

Older job seekers do many things well. One of the obstacles for many of them is presenting well in an interview. The lack of preparation. The lack of research. The application of relevant knowledge. All of those things can impede your chances. Jeff Altman has 40 years experience advising job seekers with interviews and helping them with their challenges.

What are your interview challenges? I would love to know your thoughts about today’s show in three ways:

  1. Call and leave a voicemail or text me at 708-365-9822
  2. Go to TheVoiceofJobSeekers.com, press the “Send Voicemail” button on the right side of your screen and leave a message
  3. Send email feedback to mark@thevoiceofjobseekers.com

Editor's note: Scott Bennett is the author of The Elements of Resume Style. He is often asked about resume writing and the importance in its brevity and clarity as Monster discusses with him in this interview. Scott is a friend and was kind enough to share this with me to share with you.

Recorded shortly after the July 2005 launch of the first edition of The Elements of Resume Style (AMACOM, New York, NY), the freshness and continuing relevance of this podcast today help demonstrate: the more things change, the more they stay the same. As discussed in the second edition of the book, launched September 2014, successful candidates will discern between the rapid, plentiful changes in content delivery systems and the surprisingly fixed and enduring rules for developing error-free, clear, focused, targeted and compelling content. All active career seekers are urged to read and apply the strategies contained in the second edition -- in paperback, e-book, or audio format, based on learning style. Enjoy the interview

Transgendered Employees and Company Culture

The Voice of Job Seekers - Unemployed, Underemployed, Unappreciated Job Seekers Welcomed!

Donn Levie (@DonnLevie) recently wrote a very helpful article for those who are transgenders and examples for employers in a similar situation he experienced. As we know, this is still new territory in many ways although it is more common now than 10 years ago. I think people who work with transgendered coworkers will benefit from this dialogue. We dive a little deeper than the article Donn offers in hopes this will offer addition value for those who need it.

Do you currently work with a transgendered coworker? How have you handled it? How has your company handle it? Share it with us. Here’s how you can do it:

  1. Call and leave a voicemail at 708-365-9822
  2. Go to TheVoiceofJobSeekers.com, press the “Send Voicemail” button on the right side of your screen and leave a message
  3. Send email feedback to mark@thevoiceofjobseekers.com
